Goodbye, sweet little Teddy!

We lost our sweet little Yorkie this morning at 8:23 am.

He had been acting strange on and off for about a week or so, and over the last several days -- despite visits to 3 different vets -- he got progressively worse. And no one could tell us what was wrong with him. He was lethargic. He was wobbly and limping. He would cry and whimper in pain for "no reason." He would jump and run around and then just stand in one place for hours. He even started having seizures.

I won't go into all the details -- much, much too sad -- but let's just say that somewhere along the way, we lost our Teddy.

And I'm not sure how much was really left of him this morning when Sean and I took him to the vet. But we told Teddy how much we love him. We told him we were sorry we could not do anything to help him get better. We petted him. We gave him his favorite toy. And we sobbed.

And we miss him.

Goodbye, Teddy....

Heeeeeeeeere's TEDDY!

A few weeks ago, we adopted another sweet little dog (AKA "furry, four-legged child"). His name is Teddy, and he's a 6-year-old purebred Yorkshire Terrier. Yep. A teeny, weeny Yorkie!
We rescued Teddy (full name Theodore Alcazar... ha-ha!) from a family who could just not give him the love and care he deserved, and we are very happy that he's now a part of our family!
Rowdy (our 6-year-old Yorkie mix) has behaved very well with the new addition, and it seems that (after a few weeks of trial and error) they are getting along nicely! They play with each other and run around, and sometimes they even cuddle -- just a bit! A very wee bit. It's VERY cute!
Funny things about Teddy... well, he's a stinky little guy (must be a skin issue), but he loves tummy rubs, sometimes sleeps on his back with his legs sticking out everywhere, wheezes when he barks, turns his head to one side or the other when you talk to him and often can be found poking out the tip of his tongue -- while awake or asleep!
At any rate, here's Teddy! We look forward to discovering more of his quirks and oddities... and just having fun with the newest Alcazar.

Welcome, ROWDY!

Sean and I drove to Georgia this weekend to pick up a new member of the family: Rowdy! He is a little 4-year-old Schnauzer-Yorkie mix... with ears that are a major cuteness factor.

So far we are all adjusting to life together, but Rowdy sure is a sweet boy. He is very well mannered and snuggly. He rides well in the car, plays with other family dogs, sleeps all night and draws lots of attention at PetsMart... but he doesn't seem to know much about obedience! We'll have to work on all those basics... like come, sit, lay down, stay, etc. The only thing he does do on command is "sing." Whenever we howl, he howls right along with us!
